Architecture on Display

Studio, Fall 2013
Mari Lending and Mari Hvattum

Architecture-on-display_2In collaboration with The House of the Artist, The Oslo City Archives, and the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design, this studio explores, interprets, curates and revives a unique collection of architectural models which today exists in a half ruinous state in the Oslo City Archives. The collection was established in 1925, planned as an ambulatory exhibition of Norwegian modernism. The collection was meant to be absolutely contemporary; old works were to be excluded and new ones included continuously. The studio will assess the architectural exhibition as a genre, and will result in the exhibition Model as Ruin at the House of Artists as well as a book on the so-called Permanent Collection and its international trajectory. The studio encompasses literature- and archival studies, exhibition design, and model restoration.
