Warburg Models: Buildings as Bilderfahrzeuge
Judith Clark Studio, London
On Friday, December 15, 1933, the HAPAG steamship Hermia arrived in London from Hamburg. On board were 531 crates packed with the contents of the Kulturwissenschaftliche Bibliothek Warburg, the institute founded by the German art historian Aby Warburg: over 60,000 books, thousands of slides, photographic equipment, book stacks, timber shelving, card catalogues,
furniture.
On the 90th anniversary of the Warburg library’s arrival in London aboard the coasting-steamer Hermia, join us to celebrate the publication of Warburg Models: Buildings as Bilderfahrzeuge (Hatje Cantz Verlag). The launch takes place as an installation exhibit at Judith Clark’s studio space, 42 Golborne Road, where the crated models are stored following their transit from Hamburg in preparation for the exhibition Warburg Models, which will open at the Architectural Association, 36, Bedford Square, on January 18, 2024.
